Bringing your family to live with you in Saudi Arabia is an important step for stability and comfort. To allow your wife and children to stay legally in the Kingdom, you need to issue a Family Residency Permit (Iqama) and fill iqama form for each family member.
The process is straightforward when done correctly. This guide explains the steps clearly, including documents, fees, medical tests, and Absher procedures.
This guide is prepared by JCT Translation Office, a certified and sworn translation office in Jeddah that assists residents in completing and submitting Iqama applications.
Who Can Sponsor Their Family for Iqama
You can sponsor your wife and children if:
You have a valid Iqama.
Your job profession allows family sponsorship.
You meet the minimum salary (3500SR) requirement set by authorities.
If your profession needs updating, that should be done before the Iqama application.
Documents Required to Issue Family Iqama
Prepare the following documents in advance:
Document | Notes |
Copy of your Iqama | Clear and readable |
Family passport copies | Passports must be valid |
Marriage certificate | Must be translated if not Arabic |
Birth certificates for children | Translation required if not Arabic |
Medical test report | From an approved medical center |
Family photos | White background, recent |
Translation note: If your certificates are in English or any non-Arabic language, they must be translated by a certified translation office. JCT Translation Office provides official translation accepted by Jawazat.

1. Complete the Medical Test
Your family must undergo a medical examination at an approved medical center. Results are sent electronically to the Ministry of Interior.

3. Pay Government Fees
Using SADAD through your bank:
Iqama issuance fee (usually yearly)
Dependent fee (per family member)
Any residency service fees if applying through Jawazat
4. Log in to Absher
Go to:
Services
General Services
Passports
Issue Iqama
Fill details exactly as written in the passport to avoid rejection.
5. Submit the Application
In many regions the Iqama will be issued online. In some cases you may visit Jawazat to finalize fingerprints or submit any missing documents.
How Long Does the Process Take
If documents are ready and medical results are updated, the process may take 1 to 5 working days.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Spelling names differently than the passport
Providing old or unclear translations
Starting the application before medical results are uploaded
