Convert Your Foreign Driving License to a Saudi Driving License

If you're a resident in Saudi Arabia and already hold a valid foreign driving license, you may be eligible to convert it to a Saudi license without taking a full driving course.

Here’s a step-by-step guide using the latest process through Absher and the Driving Schools Portal.


✅ Step 1: Check Eligibility

You must:

  • Be a legal resident (Iqama holder)

  • Hold a valid foreign driving license from an eligible country

  • Be medically fit (eyesight, general health)

Note: Citizens from some countries (e.g., USA, UK, Canada, EU, Gulf countries) may get faster approvals.


✅ Step 2: Prepare Required Documents

Prepare clear digital scans (PDF or JPG) of the following:

  1. Valid Iqama (resident ID)

  2. Valid foreign driving license (front and back)

  3. Official Arabic translation of the foreign license (done by a certified translation office like JCT Translation Office)

  4. Passport-size photo (white background)

  5. Medical report (issued by an approved clinic or hospital in Saudi Arabia)


✅ Step 3: Get a Medical Test

You need to get:

  • Eye test

  • Blood test

✅ Visit any authorized hospital or clinic (search via Absher or Google Maps) and link the medical result to your Iqama electronically.


✅ Step 4: Register on Absher Platform

  1. Go to Absher.sa

  2. Log in using your credentials (or create an account if you don't have one)

  3. Select "Appointments" → "Traffic"

  4. Book an appointment for: “Replace Foreign License” or "License Issuance for Non-Saudis"


✅ Step 5: Upload Your Documents on the Driving License Portal

Visit the Saudi Driving License Portal (SDLP):🔗 https://sdlp.sa

  1. Choose “Service for converting foreign driving license”

  2. Fill in personal details (Iqama number, DOB, nationality, license info)

  3. Upload all required documents

  4. Submit the application

  5. Wait for preliminary approval via SMS or Absher


✅ Step 6: Attend Your Appointment

On the day of your appointment:

  • Bring original documents

  • Take a short driving test (for most applicants)

    • If you fail, you may need a few hours of training

  • If approved, pay the license issuance fee online(via Sadad or your banking app)


✅ Step 7: Receive Your Saudi Driving License

Once approved and the fee is paid, you'll receive:

  • Your official Saudi driving license (valid for 5–10 years depending on selection)

You can now legally drive in Saudi Arabia!
